Chatunga Mugabe, the son of the late former President Robert Mugabe and his accomplice are expected to appear at the Alexandra Magistrate Court, in Johannesburg, South Africa today to answer to charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.

They were arrested initially on attempted murder charges following a shooting of an employee at the Mugabe’s residence in Hyde park, Johannesburg on Thursday.

The alleged victim aged 23 years is reported to be in a critical condition.

However, an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice has been added after the police allegedly could not locate from the scene the firearm that was used to commit the offense.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson for Gauteng, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhuwi, confirmed the latest development on Monday morning.

“The two suspects aged 28 and 33 years will be facing charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice since the firearm has not been found. They will be appearing today at this court (Alexandra magistrate court). The docket will be brought to this court and we are expecting them to appear anytime soon once the court proceedings start,” she told journalists.

So far the police managed to recover spent cartridges at the scene and they are allegedly yet to find the firearm used in the shooting.

The motive behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained.
